Nearly 250 years ago, Americans said “No” to kings.
Yesterday, over 11 million people marched in more than 2,000 protests to say it again—loud and clear: No to authoritarianism. Yes to democracy.
By the way, the No Kings protest was one of the largest protests in American history!
I marched alongside 200,000 of my fellow New Yorkers—shoulder to shoulder in the pouring rain—carrying signs, chanting, and showing up for the country we love.
The solidarity and community were palpable, as was the fierce belief that this democracy is worth fighting for. Not just for ourselves—but for immigrants, for queer and trans folks, for women, for Black and Brown people, for educators, for journalists—for every group Trump has tried to silence, attack, and erase.
We’re not going anywhere. We are the majority. And we’re just getting started.
Meanwhile, in D.C., Trump’s birthday military parade was a total flop.
Speak loudly in incoherent sentences and carry a squeaky tank through a nonexistent crowd.
I hope this video goes down in history as the perfect symbol of the Second Trump Administration. Amen.
The contrast couldn’t be clearer. While Trump staged a sad, empty parade to celebrate himself under the guise of honoring our military, millions of us filled the streets to defend democracy.
But marching is just the beginning.
Now we carry that No Kings energy into direct action all summer long: organizing, registering voters, protecting each other, and refusing to back down.
Authoritarianism feeds on apathy and fear.
Democracy thrives on participation and bravery.
Let’s stay loud. Stay focused. Stay united.

And here is a video of me—taken by my friend Olivia. Because, yes, we must always infuse joy into our resistance, right?
