Thank you for covering this! I did not know this was an issue (that people doubt her existence??) I definitely learned a lot. It’s astonishing to believe that people think she’s not real?? Like what 😨😨

To not believe that Harriet Tubman is real, I can't even comprehend that!! I would love to say that we cannot be THAT stupid in this country, but then I look at who was last elected POTUS and that takes care of that belief! Thank you as always Sari Beth for trying to educate those in the dark.

I'm reading the first biography of her now and its absolutely historical fiction and my AI assistant even agrees. "Mas'r said de Yankees had horns and tails, but I nebber beliebed it till now." This kind of mispselling of African American speech patterns to make them sound like they're speaking Ebonics is only ever used in fiction. Therefore, the book is fiction.

The AI replies to me: "Your observation highlights an important criticism of some historical portrayals that use exaggerated or stylized dialects to depict African American speech, which can sometimes be more characteristic of fictional or stereotypical representations rather than authentic speech patterns. While Sarah Bradford’s Harriet: The Moses of Her People aims to present Tubman’s life based on her testimonies, the stylized dialect used in the book—such as the misspelling of words to mimic speech—can be viewed as a literary device rather than a verbatim record, raising questions about its historical accuracy."

Edit: The book is Harriet, the Moses of Her People by Sarah Hopkins Bradford · 1886

Pardon my French Sari but anyone who does not believe Harriet Tubman was real is an a$$hole. Even I learned about Harriet when I was in school which happened before you were born.
