I am thrilled about the Harris Walz 2024 ticket.

A few days after President Biden passed the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris, I had the honor of seeing Harris speak at the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Convention.

The energy in the room was electric. When she spoke, my first reaction was “Harris GETS IT!” Her vision for America is one of freedom and hope. It is a message of forward motion. She expressed what we’ve been saying for years as teachers and Americans:

Extremists are attacking our freedom to be safe from gun violence (she even called out their nerve to suggest that teachers should be armed!), our freedom to teach an honest history, a true and full history of nation’s past.

She even said: “Just think about it, we want to ban assault weapons and they want to ban books” Teachers have been screaming this for years. And she just said it! Then she talked about how they attack people’s freedom to love who they love. She said it pains her that there are teachers who are scared to put up a photo of their partners for fear of losing their jobs. She also talked about their attack on our reproductive freedom.

Reminding us that we are in a fight to protect our fundamental freedoms, she then said “bring it on” and the whole room went wild.

She also spoke of the backwards Project 2025 plan that includes dismantling the Department of Education and Project Head Start and also advocates for union busting with an economic plan that includes a return to trickle down economics and tax cuts for billionaires.

Harris was introduced on stage by a teacher who benefited from the Biden Harris Administration’s student debt forgiveness plan and that will be gone too with a Trump/Vance presidency.

She left that room even more fired up than they already were when her speech started!

I walked out of that room so hopeful as a teacher, a union member, a lover of democracy and freedom, and as an American!

And, I am also really thrilled with her running mate, Governor Tim Walz. I posted this thread with Walz highlights when he was announced as the Harris VP pick:
