I was honored to attend the history-making and record-breaking fundraising event for President Biden last night, March 28, 2024. In one night, $26 million-plus was raised for President Biden’s reelection campaign
By the way, last night Biden raised $6 million more than Trump raised during the entire month of February.
I will write more about the entire event later, but I wanted to share some of my initial reflections after the evening:
After last night, I feel even more determined to work to get President Joe Biden reelected in November. At one point in the evening after there were some anti-Israel protestors in the audience shouting at the three Presidents on stage, President Barack Obama said: “You can’t just talk and not listen…That’s what the other side does.” That is what is special about living in a democracy. We do not just yell at each other. We also listen to each other and talk to each other.
That resonated with me.
In the United States, we have the constitutional right to protest as well as the freedom of speech. I am thankful I still live in a country with those rights. We should never all agree. Robust debate and discussion are key if we want to evolve and grow as people and as a nation. However, if we just yell at each other and just call each other names without listening then we will not progress.
The Republican Party as it exists now has no substantial platform or plan for the American people. It has now been fully hijacked by Donald Trump. The Democrats under Biden are working to keep supporting and protecting the American people. Is any person or party flawless? No. Will you agree with every policy and action of a President or legislator? Not usually. But right now we live with a two-party system. It is not being changed in the next eigh months. There is one party that has become a shell corporation protecting a criminal conman who couldn’t care less about our country and protecting and expanding our multiracial democracy.
President Biden has worked tirelessly serving his nation as a Senator, Vice President & President. He does not just talk. He listens.
We all need to do more of that. But only with people who are truly engaging in discourse with the goal of not just arguing for argument’s sake, but with a shared goal of problem solving and finding solutions. And, yes, our nation has been moved forward time and time again through agitation and protest. We only move forward through constant evaluation and introspection. But we also must balance out our idealism with pragmatism.
Listening to the three Presidents last night reminded me why our nation thrives when we have thoughtful and intelligent people in the White House. People who constantly read about and reflect on the history of the United States. They have true appreciation for what makes us an incredible nation while also staying thoughtful and honest about the flaws that existed in our past and that continue to hold us back.
As President Biden often says, “Our diversity is our strength” and that is what shapes his actions and agenda as President.
So cool you got to attend!
Also Bill Clinton is two months younger than Donald Trump but I bet he looked much healthier. His once not great diet is now mostly vegan after his triple bypass. He has lost some weight since his time in office
