It has been a few weeks since I wrote a newsletter, so I thought I would briefly check in with y’all with some reflections and updates as we get closer to the end of 2023.
I have been thinking about my inner child lately: my connection within myself to my child self and childhood memories.
The holiday season often inspires us to reflect on the past.
My goal for 2024 is to get back in touch with my inner child by working on shedding some of the cynicism that gets built up in our adult selves over time.
Conversations at the Feminist Eagles club that I advise have also inspired me to reflect on my inner child. In particular, how much younger Sari would have benefited in my pre-teen and teen years from the community of a feminist club.
But, also how proud younger Sari would be of how much I have accomplished in my life. I truly believe that most of my accomplishments are a product of hard work, the support of my parents, and staying in touch with what inspires my passion and brings me joy.
Some Updates:
A few weeks ago I had the honor to be on ABC News Live to discuss how teachers are handling concerns in US schools
Speaking of school safety, I am so excited about the work we have been doing with Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence and we are launching a new website this week. Here’s our new logo:
I also had the honor to attend a White House Christmas party a few weeks ago and the theme of the 2023 decor is “Magic, Wonder, and Joy”. Perhaps that also inspired me to reflect on my inner child:
The 2023 White House holiday theme is inspired by how children experience this festive season: completely present in the beauty and bounty around them, their senses alight, with hearts open to the “Magic, Wonder, and Joy” of the holidays.
Also, speaking of inner child, my dear friend Tara Strong (the voice of pretty much every character with whom my students have grown up and maybe you too depending on your age) is our very special guest this Wednesday for the next PBS NewsHour Classroom Educator Voice Series. RSVP here!
I hope to see you on the Zoom on Wednesday night.
I will get back to being more consistent with my posts again. xoxo
Mine was Kerry Elizabeth :)
I think I had the knock-off version of that Cabbage Patch doll ❤️
