Greetings. Welcome to my newsletter.
I’ve been meaning to start a newsletter ever since my Twitter got hacked this summer. Now Elon Musk has essentially hacked Twitter and I don’t want to lose touch with all the amazing humans (and possible bots) I’ve met on there. (If you weren’t following my saga, they tried to blackmail me for a paltry $150. Through the help of my friends, I successfully regained control of my Twitter account.)
My favorite part of Twitter is interacting with people, so I am not sure if a newsletter will replicate that. However, I also enjoy typing out my thoughts and I have an easier time doing it in a Twitter thread than in an essay format these days. But, alas, here I am writing a newsletter on Substack.
I will keep this short and sweet as to not dissuade you from continuing to subscribe.
Also, I am currently not charging for this newsletter. but if you want to buy me a coffee or a snack to enjoy when I write my next newsletter, here’s my Linktree.
Why is this newsletter called, “Yo, Miss”?
If you are a teacher in New York City, you already know the answer. “Yo, Miss” is often how my students for the past twenty-one years have been addressing me and all the other female & female-identifying teachers. Not “Ms. Rosenberg,” “Yo, Miss!” (although there are some kids - if you are reading this newsletter, hi 👋🏻 - who started calling me by my first name and that is a whole other newsletter topic 😎)
What to expect
Honestly, I am still figuring this out. I will write about the current state of teaching in America as well as the latest headlines and political news that have grabbed my attention. Also expect me to share my favorite playlists, books, podcasts, shows and TikToks. I also plan to tell you about some lessons I taught during the week, what we discussed at our weekly Feminist Club meetings and interesting thoughts from my students. “Yo, Miss” will contain multitudes. Like each and every one of us.
Biggest Highlight From Last Week:
How Gen Z held off the Red Wave. For months now, groups like Voters of Tomorrow have been promising that Gen Z was mobilized for the midterms . The news outlets were not taking these predictions seriously. We even had a whole PBS NewsHour Classroom Educator Voice episode around this topic.
I can’t help but to give a special shout-out to the educators who teach honest history and civics to young people that helped inspire them to get out there and vote:

Oh, and I would be lying by omission if I did not also admit that another highlight of the week for me is the chaos of Elon Musk’s Twitter. If you missed it, here’s a recap of what’s been happening and some excellent tweets from my friend, Dara Faye.
The next newsletter will drop in the coming week and it will include a recap of my interview with Diane Ravitch for PBS NewsHour Classroom! So, stay tuned. Until then, have fun out there xoxo
